About Johnnie Stanfield
25 new paintings in 25 weeks'
An ambitious feat since the artist has just recently emerged back on the art scene after a serious injury to her right hand kept her from painting for over 5 years. It took hard work and a serious commitment from herself and her physical therapist to help her gain any function back into her wrist that was dislocated and broken in 4 places resulting from a fall in 2010-. 'The first year was extremely tough, she was unable to move any of her fingers and she had no feeling in my hand.” I wrote like a first grader with a big pencil and moved the mouse key to my left hand to use the computer' I spend over a year in physical therapy. The injury also prompted her to return to the classroom, where she pursued a degree as a graphic designer and took on an old passion of hers; photography. 'I have to admit that after the first semester... My instructors voted me the most improved student they had ever seen.' Thanks to the encouragement from her family, her daughter Jessica Stanfield and longtime artist friend Linda Savane who refused to let her give up 'Linda stayed on the computer researching anything and everything that could help with my recovery '
'It has taken almost five years to get back to my past potential with about 93% usage of my hand.. Turning keys seem to be my only weakness now, besides time constraints. Johnnie is also is a full time sales associate at Havertys Furniture Company in Asheville NC. Where she uses her artistic ability to help her clients choose the right color combinations and scale for their room and project.' My artist ability, photography experience and graphic design ability have come in handy helping clients find their best furniture fit for their room.' Helping others has always been important to Johnnie who clocked in over 400 hours of community service, while recouping from her injury. Johnnie enjoys helping and advising clients with their home decorating needs over the past few years- 'but is very happy to finally be painting again.'
